"The ocean is alive and busy with lots of squid
in the bays. Brides Whales are common in the
deep 150 - 200 metre mark - Sun Fish wallowing
in the warm current with giant Manta rays
cruising to a secret rendezvous. Mako Sharks,
Thresher, Bronze Whaler and Great White Sharks
and more have been sighted by anglers. Dorado,
Bonita and giant Yellow Fin Tuna have been
boated and lots have been released as part of
the new tagging programme to gather more info on
yellow migratory routes and patterns. Wahoo, a
very rare catch for this area, have been
reported caught obviously due to the warm

Shipwrecks along our coastline
This
series of stories about shipwrecks along our coastline
does not claim to be an accurate historical record of
events. It is rather a combination of fact and stories
collected from local sources, and in some cases from eye
witnesses. For the original article in our first
publication, with the help of various people, archives
were consulted but strangely or predictably these "
facts" were disputed by our local informants who often
claimed these" facts" were to be rubbish! What this
article hopes to achieve is to make walks and travels
along our shores more interesting and fun.

Surfing
St
Francis Bay is world famous for its surfing waves called
"Bruce's Beauties" after the photographer who featured
them in the 1960's cult film "The Endless Summer".
Seal
Point, at Cape St Francis, is best described as a
classic point break. It is divided into two sections,
being the more peaky outside section and the walled up
inside section. They are separated by a barnacle
encrusted rock that juts out of the water at low tide
and covered at high tide, called Full Stop Rock.
Occasionally, tide and swell direction permitting, you
can surf one glorious long ride from the outside section
all the way through to the beach.
Seal
Point has bowling sections and is a wave that can be
enjoyed by hi-performance rippers and longboarders
alike. Seal Point beachbreak is a fairly fickle lady,
being dependant on tides and wind. But when she goes
it's just full of barrels. |

Right Whales in the bay is from May to
September. Otters, seals, penguins all abound in

viewpoints along the coast. |
